How to Write Suno Prompts

A clear style line plus structure tags beats a paragraph of vague adjectives. Here’s a repeatable method that works in Suno-compatible tools and similar AI music apps. Not affiliated with Suno, Inc.

The style-line formula

[subgenre], [era/vibe], [mood], [2–4 instruments], [vocal type], [mix note], [BPM]

Example: modern trap, dark late-night vibe, melancholic mood, hard 808s, crisp hi-hats, atmospheric pads, emotional male vocals with light auto-tune, polished mix, 128 BPM

Five steps

  1. Pick a subgenre — “future bass” beats “EDM”; “boom-bap” beats “hip-hop” alone.
  2. Add mood + era — melancholic, uplifting, 1980s, noir, etc.
  3. Name instruments — two to four concrete sounds.
  4. Lock vocals + BPM — or say instrumental.
  5. Add structure tags — see the meta tags guide.
